Cusco: Transportation
Options
Air Transport
Getting to and from Cusco by air is very
easy. Every day there are numerous flight to and from Lima.
The vast majority of these flights occur in the morning. Additionally
from Cusco there are opportunities to catch a flight to Arequipa,
Puerto Maldonado, Ayacucho and other locations within Peru.
Additionally there are a small number of flight to La Paz,
Bolivia.
Get to the airport early to avoid long check
in lines. Enjoy the views when flying to or from Cusco. The
mountain scenery is simply amazing!
Once in Cusco a taxi to any destination within
the city will be very inexpensive.
Bus Transportation
There is decent bus service to and from Cusco
and the surrounding area. It is possible to take a bus to
Lima but WE DO NOT recommend this option. The trip is long
and the roads are not in the best conditions.
Currently Cusco does not have a central bus
terminal. Check with the Spanish school to find out where
to catch a particular bus. Buses run from Cusco to destinations
in and around Cusco on a regular basis. The fares are cheap.
Train Transportation
In Cusco you will find two different train
stations. There is one station located close to Avenida Sol
and trains from this location will run to Puno and Arequipa.
The train to Puno is very popular. The scenery is great. Puno
is also close to the Bolivian border any many travelers will
cross over to visit La Paz.
The other station is located next to the
main market. This is the station you will use to visit Machu
Picchu. The trip takes about 3.5 hours and runs through some
beautiful canyons and mountain areas. Check with the school
to find out about this train and trips to Machu Picchu. Note:
The trains to Machu Picchu all leave early in the morning.
