Lima: Some Fantastic
Museums
When you are in Lima take some time to visit
the many museums spread throughout the city. If however you
only have the time or patience to visit a couple, you should
definitely visit the Gold Museum and the Museo Nacional de
Antopologia, Arqueologia e Historia.
Museo Nacional de Antropología, Arqueología
e Historia
This is easily the most important museum
in Peru. Some say it is one of the the best in Latin America.
If it is not, then it is close. This museum easily has the
largest historical collection in the country. The collection
covers the full range of Peruvian cultures, so if you are
interested in the history of Peru, this place is a must see.
Of special note are the impressive collection
of artifacts from the Nazca, Chavin, Inca, Chimi, Paracas,
Huari, and Sican cultures.
One section of the museum also houses interesting
items from the colonial and early independence days of Peru.
The Gold Museum
We find this museum to be fascinating. The
museum is a private collection of gold, textiles, and interestingly,
military items from around the glob.
Museo Arqueológico Rafael Larco Herrera
The directors of this interesting museum
claim that they have the largest PRIVATE collection of Pre-Colombian
art found anywhere. Whatever the case may be, this museum
has a wide range of wood, textiles, ceramic, stone and gold
pieces in the collection.
Museo de la Nación
A smaller museum the displays items from
Pre Colombian cultures dating from 13,00 BC to approx. 1500
AD.
Museo del Banco Central de Reserva
A small museum the covers archaeology, the
money of Peru, and contemporary Peruvian painting.
There are other museums in Lima, but the
above are some of the more interesting.
